Notes from Joey...
Uh oh....Papa pulled down the suitcases.....I wonder if he is just going to put stuff in them and put them back up...…
Nope, he didn't. This is going to be bad. I wonder if I should warn Emma, Jack and Sophie. I don't think they noticed. (I'm smarter then all of them put together.)
Mama keeps talking about "the Vista". What is that?
I wonder who is going to the kennels first. How could they leave me...after all, I'm so cute!
Licks and kisses, Joey
As always, please keep an eye open for children or animals locked in a hot car! Thank you!
QUILTING ANGELS - CHARITY QUILTERS
Thank you to all of the Quilting Angels who joined in for the pillowcase sew-in last Friday. I was only able to stay and sew for the afternoon, but I saw a lot of progress being made. The production line method gets pillowcases made fast!
Thank you to the people who have donated fiberfill for our heart shaped pillows next month. We appreciate your donations very much. Neta Lee, who is coordinating the heart pillow project, likes to divide up the fiberfill into equal portioned bags in advance, so we can stuff each pillow with the same amount of fiberfill. I think that is very clever! Please join us on Monday, October 15 to make these heart pillows for breast cancer patients at M.D. Anderson Hospital. Everything will be ready for us to start sewing. We will sew from 10 to 3 that day.
We have another need at this time. I have completely run out of backing fabrics for twin sized quilts. I need 5 1/2 to 6 yard pieces of fabric for backings. I sure would appreciate some donations of money or fabric for quilt backings. Quilter’s Emporium has some nice fabrics on clearance that would do very nicely. Thank you in advance!
You can reach me with charity quilt questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
One fat quarter, like one cookie, is never enough!
MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE
DRUM ROLL PLEASE….Once again our 24-Hour Pillowcase Sew-A-Thon looks like broke all our previous records! Our current count is 329 but we haven’t stopped counting yet! We still have a stack of pillowcases that we finished sewing but they still need the final ironing. We will have the “official’ count for you next week. I looked back at last year’s number and it was 366, but Barbara and I are sure that we are over that number.
We received a box on Thursday from a group in Illinois. It contained 100 individually wrapped pillowcases for Harvey victims. We have made some calls and are waiting on a call back from a group who is still working with Harvey victims. We will be turning this number in with our Sew-A-Thon count when it gets delivered.
Thank you to Rose Ann and her staff for giving us a place to sew and putting up with all the partying. Next, thank you to Dolores and Peggy for spending last Wednesday helping us put pillowcase kits together. And to Susan I., Dolores and Barbara M. for pinning over 100 pillowcase kits together giving us a great head start!
WE SEND A BIG THANK YOU to Barbara L., Nora, Sandy, Peggy, Cherie, Cherry, Dolores, Karen J., Arlynn, Linda, Sue, Deepali, Susan M., Deborah, Rebecca, Christine, Kelsie, Ambereen, Mary Ella, and Deena for spending your day/night pinning, sewing, ironing, cutting and more ironing.
We thank our Houston Hospice volunteers Sylvia, Anne, Elisa, Rachel and Caleb and our Silverado Hospice volunteers Rochelle, Rickie, Iriscia, Ebony, Dee, Stephanie and Christopher.
It was wonderful to have all of you come help. Special recognition and thanks to J. Miranda for staying with us for the entire 24 hours, for the 5th year in a row. We had a couple of these ladies carry in finished pillowcases getting us started with 45 pillowcases. And Sue from New Braunfels couldn’t be at the Sew-A-Thon so she mailed her pillowcases to us. We are so blessed to have all of you wonderful people! Barbara and I just can not tell you how much it means to us to have you join us for this crazy event.
We thank the volunteers who brought in pillowcases and couldn’t stay. (I am sorry I forgot to get your names.) You are all appreciated too!
The national pillowcase count is 775,749. The drawer at QE is full again so please feel free to grab a kit and sew it up. They are free of charge. We just ask that you return the finished pillowcase to QE.
Stay tuned to next week’s newsletter to hear what our “official” Sew-A-Thon total is.
