We are open all Memorial Weekend!

Each Memorial Day, I pause to think of my dad, a WWII veteran.  He suffered a head injury on January 2, 2000.  He was in a nursing home when the attacks of 9/11 occurred and he watched with horror as did the rest of the nation the terrifying events on TV.  Dad wrote many, many letters to President Bush, telling him that he was ready to deploy to defend our nation.  Of course the letters were never mailed, but I cherish that memory of his deep desire to serve the country that he loved so much.

We are thankful to all of the our brave men and women who have served our country so well, both in the US military or as a first responder in all of our communities.  We deeply appreciate your service!

"One and Done" is a one day in-shop retreat where, for $125, you will get a completely precut quilt kit, lunch, snack and a goodie bag!

We start sewing at 10am and sew all day long.  You can even stay a late if you want to!  You don't have to be here all day if you don't want to or you can't, but the option is there for you.  You will be provided with complete instructions on how to complete the top on your own.   Easy-peasy!  The goal is that you can get the project done in one day AND you don't have to press if you don't want to.  We will have pressers available to press for you!

Lisa, one of our guests who has already signed up, is going to make her's a Quilts of Valor quilt by adding a border.  What a great idea!  So if you have always planned or wanted to make a Quilts of Valor quilt, this could be your opportunity to do so...and you don't have to cut it out!!!  Finished size of the project is 56" square.  That is a great size to put on a table, hang on the wall or back of a sofa.

Our first "One and Done" is scheduled for Saturday, June 23 and will start at 10am.  Sign up soon so that we can have all of the kits cut in time!

Kids' Kamp Coming up!  Sign up soon!

We're doing it again!  We will build on skills learned last year for our returning kampers and we will teach the newbies what they need to make a quilt!  The fee includes a week of fun and games as well as lots of instruction and supervision.  Kampers should complete at least 2 projects over the course of the week, learn about piecing and quilting, and have a great time.  We will not be repeating the projects from last year, so no rail fences, but we will be helping the kampers create age-appropriate quilts.  Ages 9 and up.  If no sewing machine is available, we can rent one for the week.  Fabric for quilts will be in addition to the class fee, and will receive our regular 15% discount.  Please email with questions (she is our leader on this class!).

 Notes from Joey...

Mama's home!  I was asleep when she walked in the door at 1am, but when I saw her, I jumped up fast and was very happy!

She didn't bring me anything from Portland or California, but I guess that is OK.  All she brought Papa was a coffee I'm good!

Mama said that several international salespeople from Benartex asked about me and how I was doing.   Well, when I meet someone,
I sure make an impression, don't I?  I liked them too!  Maybe someday I will get a chance to go back to Quilt Market.

She told me all about her going to see the ocean and driving up the Scenic Pacific Hwy 101.  She said that the Pacific Ocean WAS there!  She had a lot of fun..but it is weird...she didn't buy any new Birkenstocks...what's up with that?

I will be in the shop this Memorial Day weekend so come and say "Hi!".

and kisses, Joey

We had a good turnout Monday for Quilting Angels.  Two new people were able to join us.  Some ladies worked on quilt tops, and some ladies worked on nursing covers or burp cloths.  Several people chose to hand bind quilts.  We got a lot done.  Claire contributed two more of her lovely crocheted prayer shawls.  Thank you to all who help with our sewing projects!

The next Quilting Angels bee day is Monday, June 18.  That day will be devoted to finishing up our baby shower items for Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.  This is our favorite project of the year.  We have made a terrific start.  Peggy has single-handedly made about 20 nursing aprons.  Mary has machine embroidered about 30 burp cloths.

Many others have helped, and we are all having fun with it! If you ever want to contribute to quilting for charity, but can’t make the Monday bees, we are happy to get supplies to you to work on at home.  You can email me at  I can arrange to get whatever you want to work on to you.  Some people like to bind while watching TV.  I can send you home with a bag full of quilts, or just one or two.

Measure twice, cut once

The temperature is going up!  It is definitely time to stay indoors and sew!  If you need something to do between you quilting projects consider dropping by and picking up 1 or 20 pillowcases.  The staff is happy to provide them to you.  Our kits are free.  We just ask that you return the finished pillowcases to QE for our Hospices.

I know you get tired of us saying it, but between the March Madness Challenge and trying to prepare for the 24 hour Sew-A-Thon we have a shortage of large pieces of print fabric.    The pillowcase bodies are 27 “X WOF.   We have lots of 10 inch tops and 2 ½ inch trim strips cut and ready to go as soon as we have bodies cut.  Would you consider donating yardage of 100% cotton fabric from your collection (or purchasing a yard or two)?  Thank you in advance for any donation you can make.

Currently Quilter’s Emporium has donated 501 pillowcases just this year!  Great job everyone!  The National count is 770,983.

Happy sewing,
Karen& Barbara
