2017-18 Saturday Sampler starts soon!

The design is complete and we are working hard to have 3 quilt tops to show off at our first meeting on Saturday, October 7 (9:30-10:30).  We are making one from Rose Ann's new Modern Antiques line, one from autumn colored batiks, and one using bright colors with a white background.  The blocks include a variety of stars and a variety of techniques.  We will be teaching new techniques and offering free classes on Tuesday evenings and Friday afternoons to help you make perfect blocks - we want everybody to be successful!  The registration fee is $15, each month's block is free if you bring in your completed block from the previous month.  The 4 additional blocks, sashing, and borders will be available in the finishing kit.

FLOOD RELIEF CHARITY SEW DAY

On Saturday, September 23, we will host a charity sew day to make quilts for donating to our neighbors who have lost everything.  We have received donated fabric from Hoffman and Moda, as well as a variety of donations from many individuals.  If you have unfinished projects that you would be willing to finish and donate to Hurricane Relief, please consider looking for those kits and old projects and bringing those to the Charity Sew In.  Or you can grab a donated jelly roll and create a "Jelly Roll Race" quilt.  Or you can choose a stack of donated fabric and just start sewing.  We have patterns, ideas, and staff to help organize everybody who comes to help!

Please give the shop a call to let us know you are planning to be there (281-491-0016).  We would like to be prepared for all our volunteers!  Bring your machine and be ready to sew, sew, sew!  We will also need helpers to cut and press.

If you can, bring an item for a Pot Luck lunch on that day so that we can enjoy a fun day.  Quilters are among the most generous folks around - we are pleased to offer this opportunity to channel your generosity!

NOTES FOR NEW MYSTERY CLUB #12 from Pam!

Congratulations to Jude Ryan, winner of the Mystery #11 Viewer's Choice Award.  Jude wins a $25 Quilter's Emporium Gift Certificate, and bragging rights of course.  After Harvey interrupted our fun last month, Mystery #12 will resume, on Saturday, September 30th at either 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. OR 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m.  We will be covering the second meeting instructions and cutting instructions.  The Omnigrid R96 tool will be used.  We used this previously in Mystery #10.  Let us know if you need this tool.  I'm looking forward to seeing each of you, so I hope you are able to make it on the 30th!

JANOME Machines!

If you are needing to buy a new sewing machine, I'd like to invite you to come by the shop to see Janome.  Janome has been in existence for over 150 years and is one of the 2 brands that actually manufactures their own machines!  All of the machines that we carry have a stupendous 25 year limited warranty.

We will offer as low a price as we can.  We try to match any competitors price that we can.

 Notes from Joey...

I'm so excited!  The Charity Sew day is this Saturday and Mama and the ladies are making quilts for Hurricane Relief victims.  Of couse, I'm excited about the pot luck!  That means sneaked treats to me!!

Mama said she is bringing a big pan of Pasta Bake.  I don't know what that is, but I'll be it will have my name all over it.  Don't you think?

Please come and help us make quilts!

By the way, a "shout out" to Kathy and her shop dog, Chester at The Enchanted Quilt in Wichita Falls.  They are making kennel quilts that will go to Emily's Legacy Rescue, The Humane Society and Animal Services andn they are using my Joey the Shop Dog fabric.  Chester is a very handsome 13 year old Yorkie and it sounds like he has everything under control at that shop.  Great job Chester!  Good luck!

See ya this weekend!
Your pal, Joey

QUILTING ANGELS CHARITY BEE

Our September Quilting Angels day was on Monday of this week.  We welcomed a few new ladies, which is always fun.  Many pretty new quilts were started, and we always look forward to show and tell when they are completed. Clare brought in three beautifully crocheted prayer shawls to donate.  Thank you!

Many thanks to Anne and Kasey, who both donated batting this week.  Between the donations, there is enough batting to quilt about 16 twin size quilts!  Thanks also to the two people who donated fabric, and to the people who brought polyester fiberfill to donate for next month.

Speaking of October, we will meet again on Monday, October 16 to make and stuff heart shaped pillows for breast cancer patients.  We thought that would be a good project for breast cancer awareness month.  I am working on getting the pillows cut out.  They will just need to be machine sewn, stuffed with fiberfill, and hand sewn closed. It is a very easy project.  One of our breast cancer survivors will take the pillows to M.D. Anderson Hospital to donate.  We are still accepting donations of fiberfill for this.  Just drop off the bags at Quilter's Emporium.

Peggy took ten of our twin sized quilts to Cedar Chest in El Campo this week.  They were thrilled and grateful, giving Peggy multiple hugs of thanks.  These quilts have been taken to Trivoli, to be given to people who had flooding in their homes.  The people there feel forgotten.  Trucks with relief supplies drove through there, and never stopped to donate to them.  A church in Trivoli will be giving the quilts to the individuals who need them most.

If you need to get ahold of me, you can email Susan at charityquilts@quiltersemporium.com.

Quilters like their quarters fat, and their bobbins full!

MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE

A very special "thank you" to everyone who attended the Pillowcase Sew In last Friday (pictures below)!  The group made 366 pillowcases which is a huge achievement for 24 hours!!!   Among the many people to be thanked is Karen and Barbara for spearheading this huge endeavor!  You two keep our pillowcase bins full and I know that everyone who receives one of these pillowcases cherishes them.  Below is a letter from a nurse at one of the hospice centers that I think you will enjoy reading.

To us, it's just a pillowcase.  To others...it means so much more.  Thank you...Rose Ann

Emailed Message from this weekend:

"Just wanted to send a note of appreciation. I just learned that your company supplies the wonderful pillowcases at Houston Hospice. I am a nurse there and have seen the volunteers handing these out to the patients. I wanted you to know that the families are touched by these lovely little colorful gems of effort and thoughtfulness. Thank you for that. It's a lift for them in a very sad moment in their lives to know that anonymous others are spreading their good will to them. The pillowcases and the efforts are very much appreciated by all of us. Many of us at the Hospice are quilters and were talking about the recent RxR exp. I was now looking at the new Wooly Block Adventures and came across your website and then the pillowcase project and knew I just needed to let you know the positve impact your project had. Have a great day!  T. Williams"
