Notes from Joey...
Puppy Alert! Please put the word out that my friend Melody needs a home! Look at that face!
Melody is staying with Karen Humphrey until April 27, but she can't stay longer because her daughter's other 3 dogs will be visiting for a few weeks! Too many dogs! Karen says that Melody is very very sweet girl and is a rescue from SOCA-FBC. She is around 2 years old and has been spayed. She is very active and would be a great running partner. She gets along with other dogs and kids.
Lets get the word out to see if we can help Karen find Melody a forever home! You can contact Karen at email@example.com.
Licks and kisses, Joey
QUILTING ANGELS - CHARITY QUILTERS
The Quilting Angels were privileged to donate 48 quilts to Arms Wide Adoption Agency on Monday. Rod Martin from Arms Wide came by the shop on charity day to receive the quilts. He told us that they like to be able to give a quilt or blanket to each child who is being placed for foster care or adoption. What a nice, comforting item to take with them to a new home! Each of the ladies and Rod carried out a big armload of quilts to fill up his car. Ladies shopping in the store said we had a quilt parade! Please see the picture I included with a few of the many quilters who have contributed to this wonderful cause.
On charity day, we began working on a new project. We are making two different kinds of nursing covers, different kinds of burp cloths, and washable nursing pads. We will be donating these to Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land in July for their annual community baby shower for new and expectant mothers. There is a lot of work left to do on these, so I will bring all the “baby” supplies to the next Quilting Angels charity bee on May 21 for anyone who wants to work on these items.
Please put Monday, May 21 on you calendars. We will be sewing quilt tops for charity that day. All you need to bring to join in is your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and a willing heart! We meet at Quilter’s Emporium from 10:00 until about 3:00. Bring a lunch if you can stay all day. It is amazing how fast the time goes as we sit, sew, and chat. I have quilt kits already cut out and ready to sew. We work with generously donated fabric. There will also be quilted quilts needing the binding sewn down. All you need for that is a needle and scissors. We have donated thread.
Thanks to all who helped in any way to make the quilts for Arms Wide. It was a great feeling of accomplishment to donate to them.
You can reach me by emailing Susan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Quilt to your heart’s content!
MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE...
Barbara refilled the drawer at QE on Monday so there is a nice stash of pillowcase kits for everyone to work on.
Unfortunately, the pillowcases are going to start being a bit boring. You guys did a great job during the March Madness Competition that we have depleted our stash of novelty/print fabric. We usually hoard our solid fabrics so that we can use it to match when we don’t have a top or strip. As of this week we will be cutting up the solids we have into pillowcase bodies.
I know we ask all the time, but once again we are looking for printed fabrics. Our pillowcase bodies take 2/3 yd. of fabric. If you are looking to make more space for new fabric or if you are in the shop, please consider donating a yard or more of fabric to the pillowcase challenge. Within the next couple of months, we will start cutting kits to have for the 24 Hour Sew-A-Thon in September. We will go through a lot of fabric fast since we will be cutting kits to keep the shop stocked and to stash of the Sew-A-Thon.
As of Wednesday, evening the National pillowcase count is 764,930.
Thank you again for all your hard work putting us into 4th place in the March Madness Contest!

Our Saturday Sampler group is now halfway there - block 6 was distributed on April 7. This block is a great opportunity to use the Studio 180 ruler Corner Beam, which we will have available for your use at our sew-ins this week. Standard piecing will require templates to get the angles correct for the block. Next month will be our first Lemoyne star block. We highly recommend use of the Studio 180 Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler. If you do not already have this versatile tool, please consider getting one, especially if you will be making the setting kit as shown in our sample. If you take our Tucker University Lemoyne Star Basics class, you receive a 15% discount on the ruler and instruction from teachers who have made hundreds of these blocks. Sign up early - these classes will fill up!

Summer Solstice - $107
Summer Solstice is a great “beginner” (as in never paper pieced) project. It is also a wonderful project for the more experienced quilter to experiment with color placement within the various design elements. The class will break down the various elements of the pattern and walk you through the Judy Niemeyer paper piecing process. At Fall Market Quiltworx.com introduced a queen version of Summer Solstice - there are small modifications to the New York Beauty element, adds a newly designed pieced border, and a pieced outside borders (first seen in Mariner’s Compass Technique of the Month). For this class you be constructing the queen pattern as it has eliminated the 16 “Y” seams and makes the construction process incredibly fast and easy. Jan Mathews, Certified Instructor for Judy Niemeyer / Quiltworx, will lead you through the Judy Niemeyer process in a calm, positive, and supportive class room setting.

Sunrise Mixer introduces the newest iteration of design by Judy Niemeyer Quilting for Quiltworx.com. Access to Quiltster is required (monthly $9.99 subscription available). You are the designer in that you select from an assortment of “filler” designs for each segment of the pattern. Once you have made your selections, you submit your pattern choices to Quiltworx.com and your custom pattern (papers and instructions) is assembled and shipped to you. If you prefer, you can focus on specific techniques by purchasing a “Sunrise Mixer” prepackaged pattern - there are five: Allisyn’s Wondered Land, Butterfly Garden, Evergreen Tree Skirt, Shattered Ruby, or Sunsational Magnolia. Once you have determined your pattern, join Jan Mathews, Certified Instructor, for working your way through the various techniques utilized by these patterns. This class is not for a beginner (less than 2 quilts made). No prior paper-piecing experience is required.
