Classes at Quilter's Emporium

If you are interested in taking one of our classes, you can either sign
up in person at the shop or over the phone, by calling 281.491.0016.

Skill level Scale
Beginner - Student has no piecing or quilting experience
Experienced Beginner - Student has attended Beginning Quiltmaking Class or equivalent.

Intermediate- Student has completed a few quilt tops and is ready to "grow" their skills. A confident piecer.

It is the student's responsibility to remind the clerk at the time of checkout, if fabric or notions are being purchased for a class, qualifying for a 15% discount.  We cannot go back to previous sales tickets to issue discounts.  We appreciate your help in this.

CLUBS

Mystery Club
Our NEW Mystery Club project is ready to start at the August 25 meeting.  If you want to sign up, come by the shop and purchase your undiscounted fabric (fabric requirements available from sales staff).  Let us know that the fabric is for your Mystery Club project and that's it!  Come to the monthly meetings/classes and start sewing!  See you soon!

Tucker University - Large Square Squared - $20

Join us for our September class on one of the most versatile rulers made by the folks at Studio 180.  We will be focused on the square in a square in a square, otherwise known as the economy block.  We will also be making Snail's Trails units!  This ruler set is an excellent addition to a quilter's tools.  Besides providing the lines for fussy cutting patterns and embroidery to fit inside a square, it enables you to make perfect pineapples!

UFO Night - $5

All are welcome to our monthly UFO evening!  Join us for fun, fabric and fellowship, and work on your Un-Finished Object!  Staffers are always happy to offer advice if you are in need.  Bring a snack to share and a quilting-related project to show off for extra door prize tickets!

A Machine Embroidered Quilt!  

September 9, 12:30-4:30...  Machine Embroidery is back, Woo-Hoo!

 

Winter Traditions - $107
Winter Traditions is a new pattern from Quiltworx, with three diverse blocks,and a traditional setting.  The pattern spotlights two different feathered star blocks and a mariner's compass block.  Join Quiltworx Certified Instructor, Jan Mathews, for this 3-day class to learn paper-piecing, Judy style, and techniques which include floating points, curved piecing, and component assembly.  This class is geared for Advanced Beginners (confident sewing basics and use of machine) to Intermediate / Advanced quilters.  Some pre-class preparation is required.

Machine Embroidery - Clutch in the Hoop - $45

 Do you have an embroidery machine and want to make better use of it?  We are happy to announce that Trish Lopes, a very accomplished sewist, will be teaching at the shop!  Her first class will be a lined clutch (purse) in the hoop, potentially created in 7 different sizes.  Join us as we embark on a journey through the wonders of embroidery machines!  If you do not have an embroidery machine, we would love to show you the Janome Skyline S-9, a great sewing and embroidery machine that can open doors to all sorts of creative endeavors!

Storm at Sea

 

Bucket List Class - $60

If you have time to spend your September Thursdays with us, we sure have a great quilt for you!  We will help you decide on coloration, teach you the basics of the blocks, and have a great time as you create a Storm at Sea quilt.  This is a great opportunity to get the entire quilt put together as well as have some fun sewing at the shop!

If you have always wanted to know how to make a Storm at Sea, we will be happy to share that basic info!  Our Basics class only comes with enough time to sew one or two basic units, but we will make sure that you know them well.  We will also share lots of information on the myriad of coloring possibilities.

** Color Theory - $57**

 Are you struggling with choosing fabrics for your project? Do you remember studying the Color Wheel in school but don't recall the specifics you learned or how to apply what you remember?  Here is your opportunity to get a refresher and a couple of new tips for applying color theory to commercial fabrics for selecting your fabrics for a "WOW" project.  You will begin a Color Journal which will become an important quilting tool for helping you create amazing quilts with "impact".  Lecture format - no sewing machine required.  All levels.  come play with color!!!

Judy Niemeyer Sew Day - $10

Judy Niemeyer Sew Days (NOT a class) are dedicated to ONLY Judy Niemeyer projects.  Jan Mathews, a Certified Instructor for Judy Niemeyer Quilting, will be available to answer questions and get over trouble spots.  Several dates have changed to the second class of Technique of the Month.  We will be adding additional days, please check back with us!

Kaleidoscope ABC's - $60

 Back by popular demand!  Learn the basics of turning a repeating pattern into fantastic kaleidoscope blocks.  From lining up the fabric to get identical cuts to sewing all the pieces together successfully, Elizabeth will teach the entire process of creating a stunning quilt.  If you are interested in the fabric shown in our picture, please sign up for the class and buy the fabric now.  It has sold out twice already!

Do you enjoy sewing in a group environment?  Do you sometimes need advice on your project - fabric choices, piecing methods, construction or quilting ideas?  Join us on our Sew-cial days - our staff is very experienced and will help with whatever you need!  If you are unavailable for the Saturday Sampler sew-ins, this is an additional opportunity for help with your block.  If you are making a quilt of Studio 180 blocks, we are full of advice!  
This may be the best $10 you spend all month!

Beginning Quilt Making - $100
Rose Ann teaches quilting newbies how to select fabric, prepare and cut fabric, read patterns, and how to make the same quilt top that has been taught to over 1200 students over the years.

Beginning Machine Quilting - $30

If you are ready to learn to use your domestic sewing machine to quilt your quilt tops, then this is the class for you.  Rose Ann walks you through the entire process so that you can go home and start machine quilting that stack! 
You will need to bring your sewing machine, a walking foot (even
feed foot) and a darning foot (free motion foot).

Westalee Quilting Templates Guide Class

If you purchased and received your Sew Steady table and quilting templates, then this is the class that will help you learn how to use them.  
Attendees, please bring 2-3 fat quarter sized "quilt sandwiches" to practice upon.  It's a great idea to use Sullivan's Basting Spray between the layers of the fabric and batting.

Janome Machine Guide Class

Do you feel that you are utilizing your Janome sewing and / or embroidery machine to the fullest?  We offer guide classes to everyone who purchased their machine from us, and are always happy to teach the wonders of these machines!  If you have already had a guide class but feel that you need a refresher, please call to schedule one.  If you purchased your Janome elsewhere, we will still be happy to give you a guide class for a nominal fee.
