Make and Take-it Day this Saturday, July 22!

Please try to come to the shop this Saturday for our Make and Take-It Day!  Demos, demos, demos!  The girls have been working hard on preparing fun things for you to make and learn!

Did you know that there is a Westalee Quilting Templates special going on for the month of July, so if you are curious about the Sew Steady table and the Westalee Quilting Templates, I will be doing demos of the system on Saturday!   When you purchase the templates from us, you are entitled to attend, for free, our Westalee Guide Class where we show you how to use them on your machine.

Here are some details that you need to know about the February 2018 Quilting Cruise!

1)  All participants need to sign up through Cruises by Al Magee - no exceptions (713-729-3040).  There is an "upcharge" to the Royal Caribbean prices on the Royal Caribbean website.  This upcharge pays for all of your cruise classes, contests and challenges, demos, trunk shows, lectures, goodie bags, prizes, etc.

2)  The cruise class catalog is emailed to only to those who have signed up for the cruise) on September 1. Classes are filled on a first come-first served basis.  If none of  your chosen classes require a sewing machine, then you don't need to bring one.  If any of your classes requires a sewing machine, you DO need to bring one. Any good working sewing machine with a reliable 1/4" stitch will work great.  So if you have a travel sized machine that you take to classes, this is what you want to bring.  You may want to bring it in a rolling case so you can get it back and forth from your cabin to the Conference Room (located Deck 2 - FORWARD).
There will be a few machines available for rent at $30 per class session (3 hours).

3)  Once you send in your class requests in September, and you are enrolled in the class of your choice, then you will pay for any class kits that are required.  The cruise fee does not include your class kits.  It is unfair to expect a student to pay the same amount if they are taking nothing but lectures, demos, etc, than someone who is taking classes that require large quilt kits.  So once you are accepted in your chosen classes, you are charged for those kits.

4)  All class kits will be prepared as much as possible, including pre-cutting fabric so that all you need to do is sit down and sew.  Exception - if part of the instruction of this class includes preparation/cutting the fabric for the project, then the project will be prepared as much as possible to get you to the point to start the class.  Class kits will be delivered to you at the beginning of each class.

If you have any questions about the cruise, please email me at  I'm happy to help you!

 Notes from Joey...

A very nice person made this bed for me...and I don't know who it is.  It was a surprise and I'm hoping that she is reading this because I want her to know that I really love it!

It is covered with puffs that are very comfy and it holds my food so I get to it easier.  And there is a big bone on the front---just my kind of bed.  Thank you very much to my special secret friend.

Licks and kisses, your pal, Joey!

The Quilting Angels had a great turnout on Monday.  Several ladies joined us who had never come

before.  We hope they felt comfortabl

enough to come again!  Five of our ladies

worked to complete our donation to the Houston Sugar Land Methodist Hospital community

baby shower.  Below are the totals of

what we made for our donation:

145 burp diapers covered/decorated (some of these were

beautifully embroidered)

41 small nursing covers

71 washable nursing pads covered

21 nursing cover aprons

39 homemade shaped burp cloths

We started out with a big pile of quilts that needed the

binding sewn down, and at the end of the day, only three quilts were left!  Many ladies worked on binding during the day,

and many ladies took quilts home to bind.

Several ladies worked on piecing quilts.  We have lots of amazingly talented

quilters.  The show and tell of completed

quilt tops is always a highlight!  Thank you

for the recent fabric donations.  The

donations of yardages are always appreciated.

Quilting Angels charity bee will not meet again until

September 18. If you would like to get in touch with me, you can email Susan at

As you have been reading the last couple of weeks we are busy planning our participation in this year’s annual 24-Hour Pillowcase Sew-A-Thon on September 15 & 16.  In preparation for the Sew-A-Thon we need to kit pillowcases.  We need help.  We are hosting a cutting party on July 26 – 28.

If you are available to help please contact us at for more information.  Last year’s Sew-A-Thon we made over 300 pillowcases.  As of this week we have depleted all our kits that we had been saving for the Sew-A-Thon.  Actually a VERY good problem to have, as it means all of you are working hard to keep our hospices in pillowcases, but we must build some inventory of kits for the Sew-A-Thon.

People from all over the country will be participating in the 24-Hour PillowcaseSew-A-Thon at their local shops.  For the third year, QE will be participating on Friday, September 15, 9:00 AM to Saturday, September 16, 9:00 AM.  Last year we made 310 pillowcases for our two Hospices.  Just because the event takes place for 24 hours doesn’t mean that anyone must commit for the full time.  We would welcome any amount of help you are willing to offer.  Some people have just joined us for a little while when they have stopped in to shop, others have spent a part of their day and a few have actually stayed the full 24 hours.  There are lots of thing for people to do.  We need people to pin, sew, cut and iron.  (Lots of ironing!)  The day is full of good company, good food and door prizes while doing something nice for someone else.  Please watch this newsletter as we get closer to the event for more information.  If you haven’t marked you calendars yet for this year’s 24-Hour Pillowcase Sew-A-Thon, please do.  If you are ready to commit please RSVP to Quilter’s Emporium.

The drawer at QE is full of kits.  Kits are free to anyone who is willing to make pillowcases.  All we ask is that you return the finished pillowcase to QE to donate to our Hospices.  As of Wednesday evening the National count is 732,442.  Our July delivery will go to Houston Hospice.
