HEART OF TEXAS -ONE STOP SHOP HOP - WACO

Alison, Lori and I are preparing to go to the Heart of Texas Shop Hop at the Waco Convention Center on Friday and Saturday!  It's always a fun show and this year there are over 40 booths.  And the Scissor Guy will be there!   Check out http://www.heartoftexashop.com/  for all of the details.  Waco is only a 3 hour drive from Houston. Might be fun for a girls day out, don't ya think?  The weather will be gorgeous - do you think the bluebonnets are starting to bloom yet?

We will debut a new Sew Steady/Westalee bundle that I am very excited about!  If you have been on the fence about the Sew Steady/Westalee products or don't even know what they are about...you might want to come by the shop this Saturday for a demonstration.  It is an amazing program and we offer wonderful training and educational support for the product line.  If you place your order for the Westalee Quilting System from this show from us, you will receive several thank you gifts to help you be successful.  You can place your order now too.  Again, you get access our unlimited Sew Steady/Westalee classes/Club when you purchase your system from us.  You can take the Westalee Guide class as many times as you wish!

WHAT IS THE WESTALEE QUILTING SYSTEM?  This system is a group of templates and specialty ruler foot that is designed to fit on your domestic sewing machine.  No matter what machine you own, there is a ruler foot and template set that will work!  If you are embarrassed as to how poor your free motion quilting is on your quilting projects and you are tired of spending money on longarm services, this might be for you.  Frankly, if there is a very special quilt or a queen/king quilt that I need to have quilted...I'm still sending it out to a longarmer.  But for smaller projects, table runner, throws, baby quilts, etc...there is no reason why you can't do a good quilting job on your machine.

I'll have samples to show you how professional your work can look because I'll have 2 sample quilts that were the first quilted projects that two of our Westalee customers have quilted and the work is beautiful!  And it is their FIRST project!   For all of the details, please stop by the shop. We'd love to help you do your own quilting!

INFORMATION FOR MYSTERY CLUB

All instructions for sewing for the January class, and cutting for the February class are on the one sheet of instructions handed out at the January class.  Complete all of the tasks on this instruction sheet, and you will be ready to sit down and sew at the February class.  Many of you know we are using a new designer for Mystery Quilt #11, which started in January.  I really like that this quilt is going to have a fresh, new look.  However, we have noted that this designer expresses herself differently than our previous designer.  For one, fabric requirements are not as generous, particularly for the smaller size.  Secondly, we found the inclusion of an optional border on the last page of the instructions.  We are used to seeing this prominently displayed on page 1!  Pam likes the look of this border for her twin sized quilt, so she is purchasing a small piece of dark background fabric to include this border.  If you have questions, contact Pam on Mondays or Wednesdays at the shop, or email Zoe at Zoe@quiltersemporium.com.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the February class.   ~~Pam

 Notes from Joey...

I'm trying to remind Mama how good i can be when I am at a Quilt Show.  Do you think she will take me to Waco?  I hope so.  She will see that she just can't sell my fabric without me!

DID YOU SEE THE BACK COVER OF AMERICAN PATCHWORK AND QUILTING MAGAZINE?   It's all about MEEEEE!!!!!   WOW!!!  I was so excited I had to "go outside"!!!   It shows the "We Love Joey" quilt that was designed by our friends at Benartex!  We have kits for the We Love Joey quilt now.  You can call the shop to order or order through the Quilter's Emporium website.

Licks and kisses, Your pal, Joey

QUILTING ANGELS CHARITY BEE

This coming Monday, February 20 is earmarked at Quilter's Emporium for machine quilting of charity quilts.  Pam Baum will be in charge on this day.  The Quilting Angels are providing lap quilts and prayer shawls with batting and backing.

Anyone interested in helping, bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies and join Pam for a day of machine quilting.  Pam suggests it is a good time to use those new Sew Steady tables.  Machine quilting will be from 10:00 to 4:00.  Please note that the quilts, prayer shawls and backing will need to be pressed.  Please return any leftover backing; we often use it for the binding. Regular charity quilting day will not meet again until next month, on Monday, March 20.

We are meeting every other month this year to try and get caught up with quilting of the tops that have already been completed. Thank you to the person who donated a box of fabric last week.  We have been busily using up batting, and always welcome donations of new packages or rolls of batting. If you would like to reach me, please contact Susan at charityquilts@quiltersemporium.com.  Quilting Angels are sew special,  Susan

MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE

Last week I announced that Allpeoplequilts.com has issued an Ultimate Pillowcase Challenge.  The Challenge will take place throughout the month of March.  Points for the Challenge will be gathered not only for the number of pillowcases made but additional points will be given to the participants by submitting pictures as we work on the pillowcases.  They can be pictures of individuals and/or our team(s).  I have registered Quilter’s Emporium because you guys are so wonderful about making pillowcases.  With that said, my life is not going to allow me to set up a sew-in time during the month of March at Quilter’s Emporium.  I think at the rate you all make and donate pillowcases we still have a great chance of being in the top 3 finishers.  Barbara & I will cut kits as fast as we possibly can while you sew them up and delivered them.  Please remember to have someone take photos of you and your friends when you gather to make the pillowcases and email them to me at charityquilts@quiltersemporium.com.  I assume any pictures we submit could possibly be put on the Allpeoplequilt.com website.   Along with being named one of the top 3 finishers we could win a cash prize.  A cash prize would by more fabric for pillowcases.  If I can manage a sew day in the shop I will let everyone know.

Pillowcase kits are always available at QE, free of charge; just ask one of the employees and they will be happy to give you one, two or ten.  All we ask is that you return them to QE when they are done.  We donate these pillowcases to Houston Hospice and Silverado Hospice.

As of Wednesday evening the National count is 709,538.

Our February delivery will go to Houston Hospice.  Thank you so much for all of your continued hard work!

Happy Sewing!

Karen
