FACEBOOK PUSH - I've been trying to up our game on Facebook by posting a few times a week about new product in the shop, events, pictures, etc.  If you are on FB, check in and "LIKE" us.  If you aren't a FB member, I think you can still check out what is going on.  You don't have to share any private information or anything, as I wouldn't want to do that either.  But we will see how it goes.  In the meantime, these weekly newsletters are the best way to see what is happening as far as calendars, class schedules, etc.!

NEW BLOCK OF THE MONTH - WISDOM from Windham Fabrics - designed by Denice Lipscomb

"WISDOM"
is a new block of the month that should start in September/October of this year.  It is a 12 month program and, as you can see, it is a 30 block quilt with a stunning border and measures 86" x 98".

Sign up fee is $15.  The monthly fee is $29.99 (for 12 months) includes pattern and fabric.  Each month you will receive a "freebie"!  That's 12 freebies exclusively for you!

If you prepay the program, you pay $340, a savings of $34.88!

If you are interested in signing up for the program, call the shop at 281.491.0016.

ONE AND DONE
So here is the next One and Done project - all precut - all batiks.  This version shows a light background.  You choose what you want.  It will feature 6 pieced blocks in bright Autumnal batiks.  Also included will be an array of pre-fused, pre cut fall leaves to be arranged in any way that the quilter wishes.  The side borders will feature bright strips in the same fabrics.  The pieced leaves will be made using Studio 180 Corner Beam tool...it's easy to use and we will give great hands-on instruction!  Your leaves will be perfect!  Of course lunch, snack and goody bag will be provided for every attendee.  Cost for this event is $150; size of the project is approximately 60" square.  Sign up by calling the shop at 281.491.0016 or come in to make your paid reservation.  But don't dilly dally.  It's a lot of fun..check out our Facebook page to see pics of the last event.  Hope you can join us!!

MYSTERY CLUB NOTES FROM PAM...

One more session remains for Mystery Club #13, where the final assembly will be distributed to club members.  This pattern will reveal a surprising secondary design we think you all will like.  If you were unable to be with us in June, your "clue" is waiting for you at the shop, or let Pam know so she can forward your instructions.  We completed Steps 9 and 10 in June.  In July we will reveal how to use those reserved pieces and units not used so far, so please bring everything in July.  We look forward to seeing you for the big reveal on July 28, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. OR 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

 Notes from Joey...

Mama has been busy working on Facebook...whatever that is.  But she DID tell me that she has my picture on there, which I think is just plain smart...don't you think?

I did get my hairs all cut last Friday and I think I'm looking pretty dapper, if I do say so myself.  I'm thinking I'll come to the shop this weekend just to see what is happening there.  It's too hot to play outside anyway.  Will you come to say hello?

Licks
and kisses, Joey

QUILTING ANGELS - CHARITY QUILTERS

This coming Monday, July 16 is charity quilting day.  Surprise!  We have a visitor coming from Parks Youth Ranch to pick up 25 twin bed quilts we are donating to them.  One of our ladies saw an article about them in the Fort Bend Star newspaper a few weeks ago. She checked their website, and it listed that they need blankets.  I emailed their contact person, and she responded immediately that they would love to have quilts for the kids.  July charity quilt day was the best time for her to come and tell us about Parks Youth Ranch.  They serve abused and neglected youth ages 7 - 17, by providing a safe, supportive and structured environment.  These youth have been displaced from their families, or are in a state of crisis.

If you would like to hear about their ministry, Angela from Parks Youth Ranch will be at Quilter’s Emporium around noon on Monday.  Anyone who would like to help to make quilts for charity is welcome to join us between 10:00 and 3:00 to sew.  Bring your sewing machine to make quilt tops, or just a needle if you want to hand bind. Bring your lunch if you can stay all day.

On Monday, August 20, we will be sewing quilt tops instead of a charity sewing project.

We are switching things up a bit, due to the pillowcase sew-in in September.  The pillowcase sew-in is always scheduled for the Friday before charity quilt Monday.  We have found over the last several years that few people come to the September Quilting Angels day after having spent all day the Friday before (and sometimes all night too) making pillowcases.  So we this year, the Friday, September 14 pillowcase sew-in will be the charity sewing day for that month.

We would like to thank the people who have donated packages of batting recently.  Thank you also to Becky, who donated a completed quilt top, with backing fabric, batting and binding to go wit it.  How nice!

If you would like to reach me, you can email Susan at charityquilts@quiltersemporium.com.

Boost your own self-esteem by helping others!

MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE

MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE

I received the following email this week.  I thought I would share it.

“Good afternoon Karen,

Thank you so much for the pillowcases you’ve been dropping by the IPU.  Our volunteers absolutely love them and depend on seeing them to share with patients.  They are also very eager to help at your next sew-a-thon and are ready to bring donations of material as well.  We have an HPD Lieutenant and A Pre-Med student from Rice volunteer this year who asked if they could come, both males with their own sewing machines.

Please let me know if we can help this year and I will send everyone a notice to help gear up.

Thank you

Respectfully,

Elisa C”

I immediately sent Elisa the information about the Pillowcase Sew-A-Thon.  Hopefully these two gentlemen will join us.  We also hope that you have marked it on your calendar as well.  This will be our 5th annual Pillowcase Sew-A-Thon.  We will start sewing at 9:00AM on Friday, September 14 and sew until 9:00AM Saturday, September 15.  The event will be held at Quilter’s Emporium.  This is a drop in and sew event.  A few of us will work for the full 24 hours, but most people stop in and work for an hour or so.  We will need help pinning, sewing, cutting and especially ironing (that takes the most time).  We have successfully made at least 300 pillowcases each year at this event.  We hope to do meet that this year.  Currently we have over 350 pillowcase kits made up and ready to sew.  Please mark your calendars for September 14 for lots of fun.  Watch for more information in future newsletters.

We delivered 94 pillowcases to Silverado Hospice last week.  That puts us at 808 pillowcase we have delivered this year.  Good job!  As of Wednesday night, the National count is 772,734.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Karen& Barbara

July 27 (Friday) is AccuQuilt day.  Bonnie McCormick will be focused on a variety of Christmas projects, using AccuQuilt dies for piecing and applique, even adding some machine embroidery.

We're still working on some details, but we want you to know about some of our great classes coming in the next few months!

Machine Embroidery Clutch in the Hoop, September 9

Join us for a class that uses the elegant new Holiday Flourish 11 fabric to create a fabulous Christmas quilt!  This is an extremely easy paper piecing technique, great for beginners.  The pattern is from Alison Glass,  a modern designer of great quilts and fantastic fabrics.  The pattern creates an interesting secondary design in this throw-sized quilt!

Teacher - Elizabeth Oldham

Christmas Dresden
Neighborhood - $35

NOTE:  We do know that the picture at left is a Halloween Dresden Neighborhood (isn't it cute?), but we don't have our Christmas sample done yet and we wanted you to see the project asap.
Join us for a Sunday afternoon of fusing fun!  We will teach you the basics of making a happy Christmas neighborhood in the shape of Dresden plate, a great wallhanging to celebrate the holiday season.  You will create a variety of wonky houses to express your holiday vibe - silly, traditional, or whatever else you desire!

 Teacher - Pam Brown

Sunday, July 22, 12:30-5

Giving Tree Wallhanging or

Table Topper - $30

We have a great project that looks much more difficult than it actually is, suitable for anyone of advanced beginner stage and above.  Yes, it's curved piecing, but this is the Quick Curve Ruler method, which makes for beautifully perfect blocks.  For all who have listened to Pam Baum wax eloquent on the wonders of the Studio 180 rulers, you know that she loves to trim down her units to make them as perfect as possible.  Here is another ruler that follows the same principle, only with curves!  Join us for a fun day of sewing, learn the wonders of the mini-QCR, and make a great project all at the same time!

Teacher - Pam Baum

Tuesday, July 24, 11-3 (but you can stay later if you want!)

Disappearing Nine Patch, Christmas Style - $45,
Includes 2 charm packs and pattern

We just love the variety of designs that can be created using this method of piecing.  In this beginner class, Pattie will lead you through the process of making nine patch blocks and then cutting them to pieces!  If you have ever thought that you might need permission to cut up your pieced blocks, Pattie is the person to encourage that practice.  For piecers of all skill levels, this is a class sure to be fun and productive.
